What is a Judgment Lien (in Florida)

Generally, a court ordered decision. A judgment is the official and authentic decision of a court of justice upon the respective rights and claims of the parties to an action or suit therein litigated and submitted to its determination. Black’s Law Dictionary.

  1. Money Judgment A Money Judgment is a judgment which adjudges the payment of a sum of money, as distinguished from on directing an act to be done or property to be restored or transferred. Black’s Law Dictionary. Money Judgments become liens upon real estate owned by the debtor upon recording of a certified copy of the judgment according to F.S. §55.10
  2. Components The components of a money judgment, enforceable against Florida real estate are: (i) a written order of court containing the address and social security number, if known to the prevailing party, of each person against whom judgment is rendered. F.S. §55.01(2). The signature of the judge should be affixed.
